Enrol for the Beginner Course

You can join the Beginner Course twice per year: in September and February. The February course will start on Wednesday 12 February 2020. Do you want to begin dancing now already? Feel free to visit one of our Wednesday evenings!

The February course is currently full. However, additional places might become available when people cancel their registration. Please leave your email to be notified when spots are available. When enough people register for the waiting list, we will even start an extra group! This extra group will start on Sunday evenings around 18:30.

Another option is to register for our course at CREA. This course lasts 10 classes that are parallel to the Beginner Course and afterwards it is usually possible to join the remaining 10 classes of our Beginner Course at USC. This depends on the amount of space that opens up at the USC. Please note that you need to register with a partner for the CREA course.

While there are no other official trial lessons, it is possible to try out dancing in other ways. You can visit on of our dance evenings on Wednesdays from 21:00 onward or one of our other dancing activities. This is the perfect opportunity to try out a few dance steps. It is also possible to watch one of the ongoing classes on request. If you want to watch a lesson, please contact the board.

Do you want to participate in the trial lesson or visit a dance evening on Wednesday? To enter the USC, you can simply ask the USC front desk to let you in as a guest. In case you want to visit before 21:00 to watch the lessons, the board will let you in. Please get in touch so they can await you.

About the Beginner Course

SDV AmsterDance organizes weekly ballroom dance classes on Wednesday evening in the University Sport Centre Universum (USC Universum). The takes a half year to complete and is followed by a dancing exam for which you will receive a dancing diploma of level “Bronze”.

During this course you will learn 7 dances: Slow Waltz, Tango, Quickstep, Cha-cha-cha, Rumba, Jive and Salsa. You learn the basic figures that the dance consists of and learn the basic techniques that make the movements in a dance couples fluent and pleasant. We will pay attention to principles of leading and following, with which you and your dance partner communicate and make every dance a unique experience together.
During the lessons you will change partners regularly to put leading and following into practice. It is therefore not necessary to enrol with a partner of your own.

Enrolling per quarter

Most courses at the USC take a quarter. For this reason, AmsterDance also offers the opportunity to enrol for a quarter. NOTE: if you decide to follow both quarters, this is more expensive than enrolling for the entire course at once.

The course continues in the second quarter, that is, quarter 2 or quarter 4, with the regular course programme. This means that it is not possible to join the course halfway through. The registration per quarter is solely meant for those that want to follow only the first part of the course, or are not sure yet whether they want to follow the entire course.

Quarter prices
€42,50 for student members (€85,- complete course)
€47,50 for students (€95,- complete course)
€95,- for non-students (€190,- complete course)

The February course is currently full. However, additional places might become available when people cancel their registration. Please leave your email to be notified when spots are available. When enough people register for the waiting list, we will even start an extra group! This extra group will start on Sunday evenings around 18:30.
