We will keep you informed!

The most fun competition of the year is just around the corner!
The ‘Amsterdamse Beginners Competitie’ will take place in
CanDance Studios.

For the 6th time, SDV AmsterDance is organizing an accessible dance competition for beginners. The Amsterdam Beginners Competition (ABC), formerly known as the KnuffelCup, is primarily intended for beginning student dancers to get a first competition experience. However, the ABC registration is open to everyone, from absolute beginners to experienced dancers! This competition is all about fun on the dance floor, which is why costumes and craziness are most welcome! So are you an enthusiastic dancer and would you like to participate in an accessible dance competition? Then this is the perfect opportunity to participate!

Important information:

Event: the Amsterdam Beginners Competition (ABC)
Date: TBA
Time: TBA
Location: CanDance Studios (Isolatorweg 28, 1014 AS Amsterdam)
Theme: winter sports – “van walsen in de weide tot paso op de piste”
Categories: ballroom and latin
Entree fee: €5 students, €10 non-students, €2.50 visitors

Registrations are open!

How does the ABC work?

In the morning all participants dance a ballroom classification round (English waltz, tango, quickstep), after which the jury will classify you based on your level. You then dance a semi-final in this class and maybe even the final! After a short lunch and dress changing break, all participants dance a classification round latin (chacha, rumba, jive), followed by the same principle as the ballroom. The award ceremony will follow after the competition.

More information about the time table will follow depending on the number of registrations.

Extra training

There will be a practice afternoon, just like last year, for the beginners to participate well prepared in the competition. Charda Stuivenberg (USC ballroom dance teacher) will share all the tips and tricks of a dance competition during a two-hour practice. This offer is included in the participation price! Information about the new date will follow.

Combination ticket – Student Dance Gala Groningen

The Student Dance Gala cannot take place on the 28th of March, due to the current regulations to limit the spread of the coronavirus. We will keep you informed once we have new information.

On the evening of March 28th, the student dance association of Groningen organizes a grand Student Dance Gala (SDG). Because both our organizing committees encourage you to go to both events, we offer you a special combination ticket with a discount. This means that as a student you can go to a very fun competition ánd an amazing gala for less than 20 euros, and as a non-student for less than 25 euros! We realize that Amsterdam and Groningen are not within biking distance, so we will try to arrange a party bus (approximately €15 pp) from the ABC to the SDG, if enough people are interested.
The organization committee has set up a bed&breakfast service, so nobody has to catch the last train. More information can be found on the website of the Student Dance Gala.
